14/07/2008 - Environmentally-friendly plane unveiled
The world's most eco-friendly commercial passenger plane has made its debut in the north-west, according to Manchester Airport.

Appearing at Manchester Airport and Liverpool John Lennon Airport, the hub claims the Airbus A380 is famous for its reduced noise levels, its low fuel burn and its spaciousness.

The plane completed a flypast at both Manchester and Liverpool airports between 13:00 and 14:00 BST before on Saturday following Liverpool's waterfront, flying above the Mersey and making an appearance at the Wirral Show.

Workers who were involved in building the plane's wings at the Airbus UK site at Broughton near Chester may well have been on hand to witness the aircraft's homecoming.

Manchester Airport states the plane is currently used for demonstration and development purposes around the globe.

On February 1st, it became the first commercial aircraft to make a trip using a synthetic liquid fuel processed from gas.

Peter Chandler, a former RAF pilot who has been test flying A380s for three years, said: "It is a great privilege to be able to bring the A380 to the north-west and show it off for the first time at the region's international airports."

Airbus states it is striving to be a truly eco-efficient enterprise.
