05/12/2008 - ExxonMobil: Integrated solutions needed
The energy industry will need to adopt a synergistic approach to energy management in order to cope with growing demand whilst reducing emissions, ExxonMobil has warned.
In a new report entitled Outlook for Energy: A View to 2030, the group said that a public dialogue needs to be established to tackle issues such as energy growth, with total demand expected to grow by 1.2 per cent each year until 2030.
"The world needs to meet the ever-growing need for reliable and affordable energy while minimizing the effects on the environment," said Rex W Tillerson, chairman and chief executive officer.
Other forecasts highlighted in the report is that by 2030, China's energy demand for power generation more than double, surpassing the US by one third.
Last year, ExxonMobil's annual report insisted that continued economic progress, population growth and poverty reduction will be key drivers of energy demand growth.
Mr Willerson said that a pragmatic, broad-based approach will be needed to tackle rising energy consumption.
