11/12/2008 - StatoilHydro closes Peregrino deal
StatoilHydro has announced the closure of the Peregrino acquisition and has now taken full control of the project, which is located off the coast of Brazil.

The announcement comes after negotiations were completed with Anadarko, which has sold its 50 percent stake in the project.

Brazil's regulatory body for the oil and gas industry, Agencia Nacional de Petroleo, has given its full approval to the deal and allowing Statoil to become operator and full owner of the project, adding to the company's portfolio of interests in the region.

"This deal underpins StatoilHydro’s long-term commitment to Brazil and will allow us to establish a leading position in an appealing core area, with significant growth potential," said Thore E Kristiansen, senior vice-president for StatoilHydro's South Atlantic region.

Earlier this week, the company also announced that it has been awarded operatorship of a large exploration area in the third round of Faroese licensing.
