19/12/2008 - ExxonMobil unveils world's largest LNG carrier
ExxonMobil has proudly announced that it has developed the world's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier.
The Mozah has been designed to provide step-change transportation cost reductions while also improving environmental efficiency and emissions cuts.
Neil Duffin, president of ExxonMobil Development, said: "The same technology capability that drove us to develop a new class of LNG carrier is driving innovation in all aspects of the LNG value chain."
He added that the Mozah carrier reshapes the mould for shipping "in nearly every way".
The technology has been developed in cooperation with Qatar Petroleum and heralds a number of industry firsts, including onboard reliquefaction and slow-speed diesel engines, Exxon said.
It announced that average shipping costs are reduced by as much as 30 percent as a result of such technology.
Earlier this week, Exxon also confirmed that it will invest more than $1 billion in pursuance of new cleaner diesel facilities at its refineries in Texas, Louisiana and Belgium.
