24/12/2008 - Heritage begins drilling in Iraq
Heritage has announced that it has become the first company to drill on the Miran licence in Iraq.
The independent oil and gas firm said that it has brought the Miran West-1 well in the Kurdistan region in the north of the country into operation on Monday (December 22nd), with a completion date set for approximately three months.
Such news follows an announcement made in late October, when Heritage confirmed that it would be entering into an agreement with Great Wall Drilling to use one of the latter's rigs to spud the Miran well.
Commenting yesterday, Tony Buckingham, chief executive officer of the company, said: "The Miran block is highly prospective containing two anticlines that have the potential to contain billions of barrels of oil from multiple potential reservoir targets, continuing an exciting high impact exploration programme."
Earlier this month, Heritage also announced that it has made a significant new discovery at the Buffalo-1 exploration well in Block 1, Uganda.
